THINGS I LOOK FOR IN OTHER PARENTS

Every person has different parenting techniques. There is no guide-book in which to follow. There is no plan that we all follow to a “T.” That is just impossible. Real parenting is about adapting, improvising and handling all the crap kids manage to throw at you. I don’t get upset or too concerned that people have different parenting styles than me. I already know they do. There are a handful of qualities that I do look for in other parents. Qualities, that when they’re displayed, make me confident that I will get along with this particular parent.

You have a sense of humor.

You have a sense of humor about your kids and the sometimes stupid shit that they do.

You have a sense of humor about parenting and life in general.

You don’t freak out about too much screen time or junk food.

You don’t freak out too much in general.

You provide booze.

You drink said booze with me.

You can ignore tantrums, arguing and whining.

You swear, hopefully more than me.

You don’t judge.

You make your kids help out with chores and watching the younger ones without pay.

You aren’t gossipy.

Your car is a mess.

You don’t care if I vaccinate or not. (I do)

You understand that sometimes saying “yes” is better for everyone.

You get that Easy Mac is a meal.

Swimming can count as bath time.

It doesn’t mean I won’t get a long with you if you don’t have some or all of these qualities. But it helps!
