Our first Independence Day in Texas went great! Besides everything scaring the dogs half to death. But I found them a nice spot to hide with A/C, in the back shed and they were happy this morning when I let them out!
We spent the first half of the day cleaning and staining what will be my new patio table. The kids had a red and blue water balloon fight and went swimming. Most people plan out their 4th of July but I was just winging mine. I had no dinner plans, no idea what we were even going to make or eat. Just figured we’d hang out and see what happened. A couple of friends came over and brought some goodies. We made kabobs and swam until dark. Then the excitement began to build quickly in the kids.
All day I reiterated to the kids what we were celebrating and why we shoot off fireworks. I think it sank in. Fireworks are not illegal here and we had bought a couple of pretty big ones. As they were going off and even after the kids said “This is the best birthday party ever!” That’s right. Happy Birthday America!
I’d say our first Independence Day went well in Texas. From the kids not knowing what to expect, the dogs freaking out making Delylah freak out to hanging with new friends and enjoying an awesome night!
One for the books!
