You know what sucks? Drinking sucks. Whenever I drink I get a hangover. Whether it be 2 drinks or 5 I manage to have that sluggish, nauseated body with a gnarly headache. I can’t even blame it on I’m not drinking good stuff because I am. Every time I drink I forget that I will be feeling like total shit the next day and do it anyways. Then I’m fighting to eat, keep it down, get off the couch and simply just move.
After having 3 drinks saturday night, come sunday morning I was going to try something different. I was determined to feel better. Everyone knows to drink electrolytes and lots of water and make sure you eat. The things I did sunday were very effective. I felt so much better within the hour of doing it I thought I had to share it.
Hot Shower- Just because you are feeling like poop doesn’t mean you should look like it. Shower up, freshen up and don’t just put jammies back on. Get dressed for you day.
Coffee- When you wake up drink that morning cup of coffee. I always make this mistake because I never feel good enough to even get it down. Just the smell or sound of coffee wants to make me vomit.
Eggs- Eggs are high in protein and also contain large amounts of cysteine, the substance that breaks down the hangover-causing toxin acetaldehyde in the liver.(I looked that up) Plus they will give you energy. So eat up!
Aspirin- I have been making the mistake of taking Tylenol or ibuprofen for years. I took some Exederin (which contains aceteminphone-tylenol, aspirin and caffeine) with a large glass of water.
Apple Cider Vinegar- I mixed equal parts of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice (2tbs) in a glass of water and drank it down. Apple cider vinegar is great for many things. It balances your pH after a night of drinking and tops off any deficiency in minerals you might have.
Sweat- After doing all of the above it only took about 30-40 minutes and my headache was gone, I had no more feeling of nausea and was ready to get moving. It was a hot one yesterday and I had ranch work to do. I worked well after the sweat was dripping off me getting rid of all those nasty toxins!
Every time I drink I always say “Never again.” But that next weekend rolls around and I have a few drinks with my friend or my husband. I don’t know if it’s my diet that has changed dramatically in the past 2 years as to why I can’t hold my alcohol. 3 drinks doesn’t sound like a lot or seem like a lot when you’re drinking but it is too much for my body and I know I will pay for it.
Try some or all of these out the next time you get a hangover and let me know how it works for you. I’m very thankful my sunday turned out better because of these little tricks than it could have been!
