We had a whirlwind of a weekend!
I decided some time ago that I was going to California for Mother’s Day to continue the Tradition that my best friend and I have had for quite a while now. You can read about our tradition here → Mother’s Day.
When thinking about Mother’s Day, I was thinking I would invite the moms that I had met over and we would do a Mother’s Day brunch here. Realizing that all the moms I have met have moms/in-laws that live here or other mom friends much closer than I, I decided for shits and giggles I would look up plane tickets to see the prices but I wouldn’t actually purchase them. They happened to be a smoking deal and Travis said I could go. (Best Husband Ever)
I started making the plans but wanted it to be a surprise for my best friend so I called her husband and set it all up! I was so excited for our trip! Everyday went by so fast leading up to our departure! Things were destined to go wrong. Everything had been going so smooth.
Our departing flight was cancelled the day before we left. I scrambled to find another flight. Nothing compared to the prices I had previously found but I purchased one way tickets anyways. Now my trip wasn’t so cheap. I was determined. I was so excited and I knew it was going to be a great weekend. Not just for me but for my kids! We got to the airport with about 30 minutes before boarding so I grabbed my kids some super shitty airport food instead of sitting and eating somewhere and we headed to our gate. Of course, Murphy’s Law was against us this day. Our flight was delayed for 2 hours! I could have fed my kids good food and stopped their hangry-ness! Snacks and shit food don’t do that.
None of that matters. At 1 am we arrived in Anza, California! The smell of clean air. The feel of the crisp coldness on our skin! We were amped to just be there and couldn’t go to sleep right away. I think each night my kids got between 4-6 hours of sleep…and the 6 is pushing it!
We stayed with Papa (my dad) the first night. It was so late and he was our ride. I wanted to see family too but they were going to have to come to my best friends house for I had a plan. We played at papas climbing rocks and starting fires before we headed over for the surprise.
She was SURPRISED! With the help of her husband, I was able to pull it off no problem! We walked in and she had no idea that we were coming. Tears of happiness flowed with tight embraces and permanent smiles! The kids played hard all weekend. Harder than they have played since we moved to Texas. This was something they needed just as much as I did.
Being in Texas isn’t all bad. I realize the reason I don’t like it is because I don’t have my people. My Tribe. My family and Friends. My Benjamin!
While I am trying to make friends and do my own thing, I can’t help but miss them and want them back in my life as a constant.
I was so happy to be able to go back for the weekend. The crazy, whirlwind, no sleep of a weekend. But I wouldn’t change any of that!
Today we get back to normal. We have a busy 2 weeks leading up to the end of school. But in 4 weeks we begin our road trip that will take us back to California again. It’s only a matter of time! It’s not California that has my heart. It’s the people. My People!
Happy Monday My Friends
