When You Take Your Kids Places….

We went to Disney World for 5 days over Thanksgiving break. We saw some kids have the biggest tantrums and parents who were miserable. I don’t know why you would do that to yourself when you’re supposed to be on vacation. I am not an expert but I believe I do have some helpful tips if you plan on doing something like an amusement park, museum or anything that requires patience with your family.

Keep moving. Especially at museums. Kids don’t have the patience to sit and ponder over the display. Read the educational sign and move on. You will get every bit you need just from that.

Download the game “Heads Up” on your phone. Waiting in lines won’t seem that bad while playing this game. It’s kind of like head bands. You have to guess what’s on the phone without looking at it and depending on the people around you to give you clues. It definitely helped us in those 60 minute wait times and they have an easy one for kids.

Eat. Hangry is a thing and Levi gets it bad! Not just snacks all day because you brought them and it’s easier. Sometimes you need to stop and get something real. Even if it’s just a hotdog and fries. It’s better than just a snack.

Hold hands. There is no better way to have control over your child in such crowded places as holding hands. My kids are good at this and understand the stress of running loose in said crowded places.

Never underestimate the power of a threat. From following through with those threats for so long, my kids know we mean business. If you never follow through, now’s the time or you will hate your trip with them.

Let them pick what ride or display they want to see. Doing the things they want will make everyone happier. If you have more than 1 kid, like me, take turns. Delylah wanted to meet princesses. I got Levi to take photos with them too but after that he would pick what we did. Sometimes Trav and Levi would go on a ride while we stood in line to meet the princesses. It was a good give and take for everyone and made everyone enjoy it that much more.

Smile. Put a smile on your face even if that’s not how you feel. It will be contagious and the people around you will smile back and make you feel better too!

Don’t pay attention to the kids and parents that are acting out and having a miserable time. You don’t want to bring that kind of attention to your kids and let it damper your good time.

These tips are what helps us when we go to places. It actually doesn’t matter where it is, we have rules and we want to have fun. The rules are there so no one gets hurt or lost and so I don’t have to stress. Because of the rules, we are all happier and have more fun! Don’t stress on taking your kids places. Enjoy every moment of it!

Making Discoveries And Memories

That was the longest drive and the most miles we have driven in a day, EVER! On Sunday, our Disney World/Florida vacation came to an end and we had to pass through quite a few states to make it home. I talked with everyone and we had decided to try to drive straight through and make it home the same day. Over 1,000 miles and 14 hours in the car but we made it! Everyone did so great on that long car ride and we were all happy to be home!

Along our drive and being in Florida for a week I happen to notice things. In Florida there are toll stops on the freeway every 10 miles! We paid so much in toll fees, it was crazy!

From Mississippi to Florida, they have a maximum speed limit and minimum speed limit posted. I found that rather amusing and wondered how often people actually get tickets for going “too slow.”

In Florida, the colors of the trees are amazing! So many fall colors everywhere. Reds, purples, oranges, yellows and browns. The other states we passed through didn’t have as much color as Florida. It made for a beautiful drive.

We were very busy on vacation. Getting up early. Walking all day. Riding as many rides in a day as possible. We were eating crap food and having a blast! My kids were phenomenal! There were no major breakdowns and when we had to wake them at 5am they were in great spirits! They can go, go, go as much as we can! So can Mema!

I am not racist by no means but I found that the people who were at Disney World that were from India or of a similar region, had zero regard for anyone but themselves. Rude, staring, taking kids spots during shows, making it so no one can see around them. Even my kids began to notice after it kept happening daily.

The beach that we went to is supposed to be a popular beach. We went to Cocoa Beach on Saturday to put our feet in the Atlantic Ocean. For being a Saturday, there was hardly anyone there! It was amazing! The beach was clean, the water was clear and warmer than California. It was a great memory to make!

On our way to Florida, we stopped at gas stations and fast food places to pee and eat. Louisiana had the worst bathrooms and service out of the 5 states we traveled in. On our drive back we learned that the rest areas were much cleaner to stop at to pee and the people there were friendly. We stopped in Florida and Louisiana for food. Again, Louisiana was just a terrible place to stop. It might be better away from the freeway or in different areas but the areas we encountered happened to be terrible!

I didn’t see any wild alligators in that swamp land that we passed through. From movies and T.V, I expected to come across a view of an alligator at some point. It was quite disappointing.

Another discovery I made was when we arrived home. I know my cats are messy little shits but after being gone for 9 days and having the house to themselves, they took it upon themselves to be even more messy! Cat liter was tracked everywhere and I’m sure they went potty on the floor at some point too. (I am so grateful for the people who took care of our house and animals because we didn’t come home to that.)

Discoveries are waiting to be made everywhere. They aren’t just discoveries though. They are great memories and stories that can be told for years to come. Open your eyes and discover the world!

I Am Thankful

I love that Thanksgiving is Thursday. Thankful Thursday this year couldn’t have more meaning for us. No, we are not having a traditional Thanksgiving this year but we are creating memories that will last a lifetime.

I am thankful for my loving, thoughtful, crazy daughter. When she was asked what she was thankful for, she said her great grandpa. We haven’t seen him since the week before we moved to Texas. He recently moved to Oregon as well. It’s just amazing to me that she is thinking of him and realizes how important he is to our family. It brought tears to my eyes reading the paper she wrote about him at school and being able to share that with him. I am just elated that I helped create such a beautiful being.

I am also thankful for my amazing, handsome and so grown up boy! He is more thoughtful than he gives himself credit for. He cares when he doesn’t realize it and when it’s needed the most. He will sit and talk with me when I’m lonely and be there when I’m upset. He is the greatest combination of his dad and me with his quick temper and sarcasm. I could not imagine my life without my kids.

To be able to take this vacation right now, is a blessing. Going to Disney World is EXPENSIVE! Staying at a resort from Sunday-Sunday while spending everyday in between park hopping and spending money is something I only ever dreamed of as a kid. Now I am not only making that dream come true, we brought Mema with us too! I am so thankful that we are able to even do something like this.

Travis. Words could never express how much he means to me. He supports me in whatever choices I make. Like this vacation. He takes care of me when I am sick. No matter what, he is always there for me. We might bicker and get on each others nerves sometimes but at the end of the day we are always each others biggest fans. Besides my children, I have never loved anyone with all of me, like I love him. I am thankful that he is mine.

There is so much to be thankful for. I am most thankful for all of my family and friends, not just my immediate family. My aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and relatives that we just proclaimed relatives. We may not see each other all that much but when we do, catching up and spending our time laughing, making new memories means the world to me.

Today we are spending the day in another of Walt Disney’s Parks here in Florida. We aren’t having a traditional meal or spending hours in the kitchen together. But we are going to be together. Laughing, riding rides, eating cotton candy and making memories that I know I will never forget!

Enjoy today. Be thankful for the little things and the big things in your life.

On Saturday morning we began our long drive from Texas to Florida. It was awesome driving through the different states and passing over the Mississippi River. Something that you don’t think about ever but then when it happens it’s kind of a big deal! We made it to Bonifay, Florida in a day. (We could have driven further but we needed a break) Sunday we arrived at our time share in Kissimmee, Florida and just relaxed for the night. We knew that the week was going to be an exhausting one.

Monday was the big day! We have been planning this trip since August and we NEVER told the kids that we were taking them to Disney World for Thanksgiving. Pulling through the gates Monday morning  was priceless! Of course, Levi swears he knew but Delylah was over joyed and full of surprise. That first day was fantastic even with the crazy, long lines. We got to have lunch at the Royal Table with all the princesses and I think I might have enjoyed that more than Delylah. It was magical meeting them all and seeing the look on her face as they spoke to her! Magic Kingdom is big and there is a ton of people here right now. We will be going back a few times!

Yesterday we spent the day at Animal Kingdom which was equally as awesome if not a little more. It is smaller and less rides so it was far less crowded! But the kids loved the rides that are there and being able to check out animals on the safari. It’s not like a regular zoo safari. The animals actually walk right in front of you. We had to stop our caravan for a herd of wildebeest! Just like on the Lion King! Definitely memorable.

It’s our third day going to the parks and we are getting tired! We spent the morning at the Magic Kingdom once again and rode rides we missed Monday. We are taking a small lunch break and then heading back there for the night. I can’t wait to see the fireworks and water show!

The kids have been exceptionally well. Even standing in 55 minute wait times. I am so glad we decided to take this trip and spend our Thanksgiving together as a family. We are experiencing a new bonding that will last a lifetime. Not to mention the marvelous memories that we are making.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of this week has in store for us!
