Monthly Archives: September 2016

After my post yesterday, I find it necessary to do a Thankful Thursday. I may not like it here at this moment but I am still thankful for many things on a daily basis!

I am Thankful that no matter how I feel I am surrounded by my family. My kids and my husband make me smile daily. We spend more time together now than we did back in California. (because we don’t really know anyone and I am crazy about routine with this wicked school schedule)

I am Thankful for the people we have met. They aren’t overwhelming me (well most of them aren’t) with wanting to hang out all the time. On school days we just don’t have time. I have recently met one person in particular that I really click with and am excited to see our friendship blossom!

We have been having nice, brisk mornings. A little less humidity. Not by much but we can tell the difference with just the little bit of change. The days are still nice and warm later. It’s sort of the perfect weather right now and I am thankful for that.

Levi joined flag football at school. He is making friends and stepping outside of his box to do something on his own. If you know him, you know that’s not really what he does.

My kids are nicer to each other. I don’t know if it’s because we don’t have many other people in our life right now or what. But they will sit and talk about their school days to each other. They will play games together and help each other in the pool. I am thankful that their relationship has gotten stronger.

I am probably most thankful for my blog and my journal. I get all my feelings out between the two of them. Publicly or not, I sure feel better after I have vomited my feelings all over the place! So, Thank you all for that!

What are you thankful for today?

I Just Don’t Like It….

It’s been about 4 months since the big move. I have been busy with yard work, school and making the house my home. But there are still things I dislike very much here. I was positive and optimistic about our move. I knew it would be better for the kids. I am still optimistic that I will adjust and come to love certain things. That I will make great friends and love it here. For now, here’s what I’m having trouble with….

It is the suburbs. There is a recent rise in break-ins in our neighborhood and other crime. While there is crime everywhere, back home I could go outside with my gun, pop off some rounds every day and not worry about trespassers. They knew I was there by the sound of my gun. Here I can’t do that. I can have my gun next me after my home is already violated but I can not just shoot in my back yard or to scare someone off. City living….

I do yard work almost everyday. The passers-by watch with their judgmental eyes and hardly wave back at me when I wave to them. We seem to be outside more than anyone in our neighborhood.

We all know I don’t like the bugs. There was bugs back home but not bugs that would bite you a million times a day! I can’t do anything outside without getting at least 5 bites no matter how much bug spray we use.

Again, this is the suburbs. I have no privacy and am at the mercy of my watchers. Those Effers.

After 4 months and a trash day every week, you would think we would have that down…but no! I miss being able to just load up the trailer with whatever garbage I wanted and tossing it. I can only put so much in those trash cans and they don’t take everything. We have to figure out how to dispose of things ourselves that they won’t take. It’s kind of ridiculous. That’s what I pay them for!

I hate hearing “Oh you’re from California. The cost of living is so much better here.” Actually, it’s not! Yes, gas is a little cheaper but my property taxes are much higher and I have other bills now that I never had because I didn’t live in the city. Also, where we lived, it wasn’t expensive. We bought our 40 acre, 3,000 sq ft home for 260K. I can’t find anything like that here for cheaper than 800K. Don’t tell me it’s cheaper here until you live where I came from.

Most of the people around here are all about what kind of car they have, their name brand purses and newest upgrades. Life is not a competition but the city makes it seem like one. I can’t stand it! No one gives a shit about your Gucci purse or new home theater room.

There are things I like here. Obviously, I am adjusting. I like the kids schools far better. They notify me constantly of what’s happening and what the kids should be doing. I have a pool. I have a garage to park my car in away from the weather.

I would say there is more to do and I don’t like the weather but if you wanted to do something where we lived you just drove. I didn’t mind. I don’t mind the weather here, it’s just weather. Soon, there will be more on the what I like list. There has to be. This can’t just be it. So, I wake up everyday hoping for the best and just living my life with my family!

Tips And Tricks

My house is always clean. Or appears that way. The only time it’s not clean is when we are having a get together or party. When people first come to my house they exclaim how clean it is. It is clean, not because I am a clean freak, but because I do not like things to be unorganized. I will never find anything. I don’t spend all my time cleaning. In fact, I clean only little bits each day which leave my house looking as if I spent hours on it. Here are some tricks and tips I use to keep my house “appearing” clean.

The biggest thing in the house is what I try to keep clean. The floors. When the floors are clean and take up 90% of your house, it has to look clean. Try it. Make sure you keep the floors clean and I swear you will feel like all of your house is that much cleaner!

I keep my counters wiped off. Just takes a paper towel and some windex or the sponge with some dish soap and less than 5 minutes. Easy right!?

I make sure beds are made. When you walk in a room and the bed is made, it just seems more straightened up. Even if there’s stuff on the floor and all over the dressers.

I have kids. I make them clean the inside of the toilets at least 2x a week. They use them, they can make sure there isn’t poo stains and streaks in them. I will clean the rest of them once a week or so.

If no one can see it, they don’t know it’s messy. I use my closet and put random stuff in it. Just like every other closet in the house. I will remember I put it there someday but for now, the house appears cleaner.

I don’t worry about dust. No one I know is coming over with a white glove to see just how dirty we are.

My kids don’t have toys in their rooms. Believe me this helps their rooms appear cleaner as well! There is never toys all over.

The toy room on the other hand gets destroyed! But it has a door I can shut and really, that’s what it’s for. So the kids can play and dump every toy bucket out all over and I can just shut the door.

So, I don’t spend all my time cleaning. Or even a quarter of my time cleaning. I just make sure the most important things stay clean. I don’t stress over it. Try a couple of these (you don’t have to do any of them everyday) and I promise you feel as if your house is cleaner!

A Big Monday

Today is a big day for so many reasons!

It is my little brothers birthday! While he is not so little anymore…at all, and is definitely bigger than me, he is still my little brother! I got to Skype with him yesterday which was awesome since I can’t be there right now.

Today is the day my Grandpa makes his big move on up to Oregon to live with my Aunt. I’m excited for him to have a change of scenery and once again be able to wake up every morning with someone to talk to. It is even further away from me but his happiness means the world to me! I can’t wait to see his smiling face enjoying all his great grand babies!

It’s our first picture day in Texas! Of course, Levi is too old to let me pick out his clothes or do his hair. Needless to say, I won’t be purchasing an expensive package of his “I don’t care about anything” sixth grade photos! Still, I’m hoping for at least a smile…

And…It’s Monday! The beginning of a new week and a chance to start out fresh!

Happy Monday My Friends
